After Hours are back

What are your favorite podcasts?

I love to listen to podcasts during long runs, or during gym sessions. It's been a while though that I've found one that I genuinely like and regularly listen to.

I may have mentioned After Hours to you before (Thanks Flora for pointing it out to me) and I am really excited to know that they have resumed weekly episodes.

AfterHours

The podcast is about current affairs in business, culture and society and are discussed by three Harvard Professors from the Law and Business departments (and they will be joined by another two professors from January onwards).

Two things I like about the podcast: First, I like the format of how they have discussions and debates (rather than the usual interview-like format in other podcasts). Second, I love how the professors always have a new, unusual perspective to share—there is always something new to learn from them.

In the latest episode (Season 4, Ep1), the professors reflect over 2020 and how the pandemic has overshadowed the world. Youngme, the main host, brings up a good point that some crises have the capacity to bring people together and unite them in an emotional arch experienced together: When a plane crashes, people are horrified and heart-broken together and demand answers and accountability together.

According to her, the pandemic 2020 is very different in that it has NOT created togetherness of people, but rather the contrary of segregating people, especially in an already polarizing world.

It is an interesting perspective and in this episode they also have some more recommendations on great books and shows to follow. Go listen to it for the rest of the podcast. :)
